I thought the library was for peace and quiet.

I thought the library was for research, reading and checking out books. Ours has a separate floor for the children's section, and it's often not quiet because of story time or the summer reading program. If the kiddos in your library aren't quiet, then the parents and the librarian should be encouraged to enforce the rules.

Because they are unsupervised. The library is another place for many parents to "dump" their kids. Many schools do not have libraries (believe that or not and if they do, they libraries are not in use or the librarians give the kids puzzles to work or sheets to color. The books seem to be for show.) So the children don't know proper etiquette for the library. There is only so much the librarians can do. Try speaking to some of these children today and the disrespect that will come out of their mouths will astound you! Librarians want children to be comfortable coming to the library so that perhaps they will learn etiquette and enjoy reading. They don't want to be disciplinarians. They have to get security involved. So what you hear there is what teachers put up with all day long. Symptom of the overall lack of discipline in our society and many people never learn better; even after they become adults.

You see it as a place that's quiet and ideal for studying. Unfortunately, kids see every place as their playground.

Not since they added DVD rental and free Internet. On the bright side there's no more card catalog.

we have many Gang member in our branch...the cops are there all the time....i don't wanna go anymore, mothers drop off there kid there in the morning
