Am thinking about getting one, so tired of taking a pill every day and bf says the idea of me getting shots regularly freaks him out. Any thoughts? Pros/cons? Experiences good or bad???

take a look at the website for mirena. There is no single explanation of how an IUD works to prevent pregnancy. they think they may:
Keep sperm from reaching and fertilizing eggs
Thin the lining of your uterus
Stop your ovaries from releasing eggs
It is believed that all 3 of these actions may work together to prevent pregnancy. it's awesome! i have had an iud for 4 years. it's great for monogomous women (as there is no std protection). as a side effect i dont get any periods, and i love that! i havent ever been pregnant either, so dont let a doctor its only for women who have had children. usually they try to insert it during your period because your cervix is a little open, but they can insert it even if you dont have your period. then, theyll check placement with a pelvic ultrasound a month later to make sure its still in place. theyll show you how to check for the strings so youll know if its still in there. i told my md to cut the strings at the cervix, because i didnt want to be checking for strings, but my ob-gyn is cool. good luck to you!

An IUD is an intra-uterine device, which is implanted inside the uterus and historically releases either chemicals or copper to prevent pregnancy. I'm not sure about 'shots' with an IUD. It's a personal choice, as with all birth control. There are risks associated with all forms of birth control, talk to your ob/gyn to go over the usual problems.

I was the same way and I got one. My OB/GYN was all "very slim chance of side effects...blah blah blah." The next six months were the worst of my life. I got an infection, which had to be treated with antibiotics for three months which cause all sorts of other nasty problems for me. It is up to you, but I didn't like it. The brief time it was in it made me cramp like death and bleed constantly. It wasn't worth it for me.

Some people believe IUD's allow conception and cause a spontanious abortion! You really need to be discussing this with an OBGYN!

Your best birth control is abstaining from sex until you get married. All the others, they are not 100% effective. Hope this helps!
