Well, maybe because you are a nice person!

A person who is angry, while it is not an excuse, probably has some problems going on his/her life and doesn't know the proper way to vent. Maybe with you being nice to him/her, it could make them less upset if only for a short while. You are doing the person a favor.

And, if for nothing less than just being a good person by being nice...You get good karma points!

You really dont have to be, unless you are in a work situation.
On a personal level, being nice to someone who is angry diffuses the situation and calms the person down. If you respond to anger with anger, then you are adding fuel to the fire.
I know sometimes it takes a lot out of you to be nice when someone is yelling and screaming, you have to be the judge on when you want to make the situation worse, and when you want to make peace. Up to you, and also depends on the reason they are angry in the first place. ( If it is at work however, be very nice, because it is your job.)

don't just be nice to them, actually go out of your way to help them with the problem they are having. if that doesn't work, whenever they get through with their angry words or tirade; ask them to please repeat themselves. usually they'll want to know why and then they realize that they have just wasted a lot of energy and emotions. you know, "could you please repeat all of that? i didn't understand it all and won't be able to help you." every time i have done this i have gotten a better response from that person. i also like to remember that i have not been with that person all day and they may have had a really rotten day. kindness is the best disarmer there is in this situation. kill them with it and walk away feeling good about yourself.

Because it shows your superiority. While the angry person can't control itself, you control yourself and you show superiority but be nice without being the angry person's carpet.

It is easy to make a foe and harder to get a friend. You don't need to get angry for someone who is not nice. Being mad at someone only hurt yourself, the other people won't care about it.

Thats a good question. At work I get a lot of crap from angry people and their problems aren't even my fault! But I have to provide "excellent customer service" and so I can't put them in their place. It really sux!

I don't know. Why should you? Being nice just makes them even more mad at you.
