My neighbors just moved in above me, I was trying to watch a movie at 10:30pm (I didn’t have it loud, but I didn’t have it quiet either), they began knocking on their floor (my ceiling), they knocked so hard it made my ceiling shake and almost made my ceiling fan fall down! I went upstairs to see what their problem was; they said they could hear my base. I told them I was watching a movie & it wasn’t up that loud & they had a choice to live in a Town House instead of the Apartment model in our complex, if noise was a concern for them.
Are my upstairs neighbors crazy?
The neighbors beside me have NEVER complained so why now the top ones do?!

I'm going through the same thing, but I expected it, so why don't they grow up?!
I put up with them, so why can't I watch my freakin' movie?!?!?
I've never complained about NO one or on NO ONE... I think it's mean.

maybe they are crazy... or just not used to the noise. I recently moved into apartments with my family and it is sooo hard to get used to listening to music quietly and keeping the surround sound down after being in a nice big house. we live on a bottom floor and have had a little bit of a noise issue but not much. they will probably get used to it. give them time... and if they never do, then you should talk to the landlord and report them.

Apartments can be noisy and irritating with the neighbors so close, I know. After 9:00p.m. you really should keep your tv at a moderate noise level. Apparently the level you had it at was a bit too loud and others could hear it and it was disturbing them. Keep it turned down a bit lower than what you had it at then. It is worth it to keep the peace with your neighbors. Perhaps someone who lives there needs to go to bed early and your activity is too disturbing, you really don't know their situation but usually the walls of apartments seem so paper thin. There really was no reason to go upstairs to see what their problem was, you should have known when you heard the thumping on the ceiling and responded by turning it down. Do unto others as you would have done to you.

it could just be them. you may need to contact your landlord or rental office manager and let them know that there is a problem with them pounding on the floor etc, when you are watching tv. You have past preformance on your side as long as no one has ever complained about you and being noisey befor, just get the jump on them, and check with your neighbors beside you to see if they can hear your tv or steroe etc. then ask if you can let the manager know that you've asked them and they have no noise problem with you.
I had lived in a duplex for 5 years, and the last people who moved in were terrible. If I walked up the stairs they beat on the wall and called the cops. The cops got so tired of coming out cause they called so often that the last time they came they acted like they left and parked around the corner and came back and one of the officers did the walking up the stairs and they started beating on the wall again and they started beating on my front door, and were very surprised to have the door answered by the cops. And the cops telling them that there was no noise problem, that it was he who had walked up the steps, in a normal fashion. the cops told them he was giving me a statement for the landlord of what had taken place and that it was sufficient enough for the landlord to evict them for being a nuisence. I had no more problems with them. But when I moved out my sister-in-law moved in and she started having the same problems. Only better then the cops being there, her boss was there ( the District Attorney) and they called the cops about noise and someone parking on the curb infront of the sister-in-laws half of the house(guess who's car it was) when the cops showed up, they told the woman they could not help her cause there was nothing being done wrong, and then she got irate and demanded to speak to their boss, which was ultimately the DA in a fashion. So the cop took him to the other half of the duplex and introduced her to the DA, who promptly told this woman that if she called the cops again for no reason she would be arrested for nuisence calls and wasting tax payers money. And she had the nerve to call the landlord and demand that he come there. Well he called the sister in law to see what was up and she explained what had happened. The landlord took a extra 1/2 hour to arrive but brought a sherriff with him with a 30 day eviction notice, and listed the city police and District Attorney as witnesses on the notice.

OMG! When I was in college, I lived in a town house with neighbors on both sides. The one side was ok. All I could hear out of them was their toilet flushing (but then, the stairs were on that side, not my bedroom).
The other side though, man oh man! They were from Puerto Rico, and that woman would beat her kids over and over every day. The kids would be screaming "don't kill me mommy! please don't kill me." It broke my heart.
Eventually I called CPS on her, but then she started calling management on me for noise (even at times when no one was home, etc), so they found her to be a fruit and she got evicted.
You don't want to fight fire with fire, because if you do, they'll just keep on and it will get worse. Maybe they are just extra sensitive to noise. If you need to complain, complain to management. Most apartment complexes have rules that if a person gets complained on too many times, they get the boot.

I wouldn't engage them again. You never know about people or what they might do. If they have a problem, they can complain to the manager who may walk by your apartment to see how loud it is. Likely nothing will come of it. However i was in your situation with a child above me who I swear jumped up and down instead of walking and it was awful.

Bass (especially if you have a subwoofer) can be a LOT louder than you think, and even carry louder at distances than it is in your apartment. But, I've been living in apartments for years now and I ignore the sometimes constant thumping of bass from next door, in hopes that when I play music and watch movies, I'll be afforded the same luxury. Your neighbors are being silly, but do keep in mind your bass is probably a lot louder than you think it is - just like they probably think your TV is up a lot louder than it actually is.

Kill them with kindness!!! You'll either make a friend or slowly torture them in the process. People should be more concerned with important things & had a neighbor like that and after many of his issues came to my door I reported him to the police for harassment & haven't heard from him since :)

The real problem is how they dealt with it. If they had just knocked on your door and asked you nicely I'm sure there wouldn't have been a problem. Don't change what you're doing smile and be polite when ever they see you.

Well, why don't you respect your neighbors. Use a head-set after 10pm.
