Frankly, the "average" human probably isn't in good enough condition to run for an hour. But I'd say the average walking speed of a human is about 4 miles in an hour. This is to say that a person can complete a mile in about 15 minutes. Someone in reasonable shape may be able able to improve to 6 miles in one hour, or 10 minutes per mile.

And then someone in above average condition may be able to improve to 7 minute miles, so this equals 8.5 miles per hour.

Who do you consider average? Anyone who can run for a full hour is not average.

That said, looking at averages from 10K race results, which are people who are already in good enough shape to run/walk/jog for an hour. It looks like the median in a 10K race is going to be about 50 minutes which would give you around 7 1/2 miles in an hour.
