do you love him enough to work with him on it?
is he willing to limit his smoking to outside the house and not in the car?
is he open to quiting? Will you help him get through it even if he has to quit more than once?
It isn't about if a non-smoker can learn to live with a smoker really. It is about if you care about each other enough and respect each other enough to work it out. If he is willing to only smoke outside and not in the car or other enclosed spaces, then are you willing to overlook it for love? Quiting smoking is one of the hardest things in the world to do; if you are not a smoker yourself, that is hard to understand. It is a very difficult addiction to break - there is the habit of it as well as the physical nicotine addition. That is two things to break at the same time. It isn't easy.
I don't think anyone can really answer the question for you - you have to look into your heart and answer that for yourself. You ahve to talk with him and see if there is a common ground you can come to. If you can't talk about this, how will you talk about other things such as marriage, children, etc, etc?

I smoked and lived with a non smoker for 15 years. Smoking wasn't the issue with us.
But you're in a different situation. If he's unwilling to stop, then unfortunately, the liklihood of a long relationship is not good, because sooner, rather than later, his health will become the issue, and death will end the living arrangement. He is also risking the health of the female.

I have been married for 14 years. I stopped smoking about 8 years ago. My husband still smokes. We stay in a 2 bedroom flat and the only area he is allowed to smoke is by the door on the balcony. I am not prepared to contaminate my lungs again with his 2nd hand tobacco smoke

You are putting the both of you in some serious health hazards. Smoking is obviously not doing you any good, and second hand smoke isn't going to do your lady any good.Follow the doctor's advice and quit. Live and enjoy the remainder of time you both have left in this life.

Male and female have nothing to do with it. I am a non smoker and will not even date a woman who smokes.

Doesn't sound like either one has much of a chance. Second-hand smoke is just as bad as smoking, so both are taking time off of their lives. Can they get to stop-smoking therapy?

well I'm a non smoker and my wife to be is a smoker. whenever she has a *** she sits by the open window. Respect for each other. I don't mind her smoking as she takes into account my needs and sits by the window. I'm happy, shes happy.

I wouldn't recommend it, especially with a health condition.
I once had a gf who smoked and it was hell.
I swore to myself(and kept my promise to myself), to never ever allow a smoker near me, no matter how attractive she might be.
