Because they believe the Jewish people are still under a directive from god that they're not allowed to return to the holy land and found the nation of Israel.

There are SOME ultra-religious Jews who are Zionists, others who are not.
It depends on their Rabbi's interpretation of Jewish law.
A Roman soldier asked Hillel, a great Rabbi, to explain Jewish law to him while Hillel stood on one foot. Hillel said, "Do nothing that you would not want done to you. Now go study."
