My friends love (or pretend that they do) when I bring lacquered wooden spoons.

Although it's not as easy to find as lacquered boxes (Gzhel, Khokhloma), spoons, matryoshka dolls (I was told that historically they came to Russia from China or even Japan, but I hardly believe it) and winter hats ("ushanka"), try to find small boxes made from birch-cork ("beresta"), usually hand-carved - they are very beautiful.

Another souvenir, not so easy to find - a shawl, especially made in Orenburg (the real one should went through a ring, so thin it is). Very warm and beautiful.

Jersey or T-shirt with letters СССР and a Soviet coat of arms (or just hammer and sickle)

You might consider bringing food, but you can buy all of it here (russiantable.com is just one of many online stores)

Lacquered boxes and matryoshka dolls. Oh, and a poster, or anything you can frame that has Russian writing on it would look awesome on a wall!

The link below has many Russian gift ideas.
