My baby is almost 4 months and is still sucking a stage 1 nipple and I plan on getting new ones soon

My son switched to size 2 at 3 months and size 3 at four months. It's probably time for you to change, but don't skip 2 and go straight to three...I felt there was a significant difference.

I didn't use Avent bottles...I used Playtex VentAire, and they have Stage 1 and Stage 2 nipples. I know there was a HUGE difference between those. The holes in the Stage 2 nipples were larger and when I switched my older son to them at 8 months, he still choked and spluttered because of too much formula. He stayed on the Stage 1 until we weaned him from the bottle at one year old. My younger son used the same bottles, and we switched him to Stage 2 at about 9 months and he was fine. The only thing I didn't like about using the faster flow nipples was the last bottle of the night before bed...usually taking his bottle made him verrrry sleepy, and the more he sucked, the sleepier he got. With the Stage 2, he'd suck the bottle dry in a matter of minutes and still be nearly wide awake! :)

As a general rule of thumb, you should replace bottle nipples every 3 months or so, or when the holes get too big (from repeated washing and sterilizing) and your baby chokes on the formula/breastmilk.

Are your breastfeeding? (I ask because a lot of nursing moms use Avent when they pump.) If you are combining breast and bottle, it's recommended that you stay with a slow-flow nipple so baby doesn't grow to prefer the bottle.

I used Advent and yes to me there was it will tell you on the package but the stage 3 is much heavier flow, just be sure to follow the package age guidelines and you should be good

yes, the flow is different. There are more holes in 3 so the milk comes out faster.
