I buy at least one of every color, and try to get a full set of at least one. Then, I NEVER negotiate, and never trade! I always win!

I win most of the times because I BUY everything I can... You want to try to buy-buy-buy anything and everything you land on as soon as possible. This is NOT a try to skimp by and be a frugal type of game (far too many people do this and LOSE)... Rather, use the money that is passed out at the beginning of the game right away to BUY properties, then as you pass GO and recieve your $200, you either 1) use it to BUY more properties when you land on them if they are available; OR AFTER ALL or MOST PROPERTY HAS BEEN BOUGHT OUT 2) Save the money to buy Houses, then more houses, on those pieces you can afford to build on evenly, then eventually build up to Hotels!
If you are NOT in the lead, then try to negotiate, haggle, barter, trade some of your Cards with another player which enables you to obtain a MONOPOLY (all the same color properties)! Then do the above!
Having BOTH utilities, as well as ALL the railroads is also great, because you get extra money when you own them and some unlucky soul lands on them! So try to obtain these cards!
Bottom Line: BUY BUY BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you land on the railroads, be sure to buy them. The mid-range properties are good to get eventually, but early in the game, buy everything you can get. (Then when trading after all the properties are bought you can trade to make several full colour sets.) As for the really expensive properties (like Park place and Boardwalk, I think they are (the ones near the GO part), they are rather of a gamble. Your opponent may or may not land on them, but if they do after you've upgraded, you can cause a lot of damage later in the game. I think the best strategy is to have several mid-range property sets mid-game.

hang on to your 500 bills until you make it around the board at least 3 times. The reason for this is so that you have them in case you land on Park Place or Boardwalk. (This next part is mostly luck) Try to roll low numbers in the beginning to get some of the inexpensive properties. Good properties to get: Water Works/Electric Company, Railroads, the entire row between Jail and Free Parking.

Don't blow all the money on the huge properties. But IF you happen to get one (ex: Boardwalk), wait until the person with Park Place is in financal trouble then offer to buy it from them. Then you can put up houses. For all other properties, they're worth a lot when you have houses and hotels on them.

First it is the luck of the roll of the dice. But one strategy I have always used to get good results is buy, buy , buy. No matter what property. That way, the second someone lands on it they pay you rent. If you had to mortgage your property to buy another one, at least no one else can buy it. So, buy every property you can. And, good luck.

Monopoly is mostly luck, very little strategy. If you want to use actual strategy, you should try another game. Like some of these:
