Depending on your age (> 21), contact teams to see if they have tryouts.
If you're young enough (< 21) go to a college that has a soccer program and try to make the team. See if they have scolarships available for soccer players.
This will at least give you exposure to scouts, finish school and then sign with a professional team.
If you are good and want to play PRO soccer, go to Europe; don't waste your time with the MLS.

Do you play in high school or college? Do you play for a select team? Usually you are recruited from a professional team. Sometimes there are tryouts, but you're competing against hundreds of others.

chances are if you are near a city you can try out for their professional team. just look on their website for audition dates. if you can't find any, just contact them and ask, i'm sure they'd be happy to help you.
