The capitalist and democratic system is declining as a whole internationally; this is evident, for example, from the recent actions of Vladimir Putin, as well as those of George W. Bush. Putin, exhibiting vast authoritarian tendencies, has a supermajority of the Russian popular vote, and will most likely continue to rule Russia nearly singlehandedly, considering the defunct legislature, for the remainder of his life, unless he should meet an unnatural end; this is especially apparent his actions in regard to the Chechen question. Bush, on the other hand, only just has the majority he needs; however, he is still able to carry out his own initiatives due to his party's immense control over both chambers of the congress. Therefore, it is an international force that is causing the decline of these United States, just as much as that international force is responsible for the slow yet steady decline of democracy and capitalism worldwide.

Well if we're like the Roman Empire we should have another 300 years to go. We're bigger and badder than the Romans ever were. So we got at least another 500 years to go.

America is so big and so populated that while some aspects are experiencing negative "years" such as the government, there are others that are taking leaps in progress, such as the care for humanity, and health issues such as the ONE campaign.
