First of all, your most fertile time is after ovulation, while the egg is traveling down the filopean tube, not a few days before your period starts. Also, there is nothing that states in concrete that you ovulate on the 14th day of your cycle. You need to figure out when you ovulate and plan on having sex during and after that time.
Some of the best ways are to chart your cycle. Mark on a calander every month the day you start your period. Do this for a few months and then count to day 14. Have sex on the days between the 14th day and the 21st day. That is a long enough window that you should get pregnant. But here's my disclaimer- There is nothing that states that you will get pregnant even if you do have sex within this window. There are lots of things that can effect ovulation and pregnancy.
You can also try the basil thermometer method. Buy a basil thermometer. It's different then the regular ones and take your temp before you get out of bed every morning. Do this for a few months and you will notice that your temp will either go up, or drop a few degrees. This is when you ovulate. Have sex when you see it start to rise and then for up to a week after.
There are ovulation kits you can buy at the store. There are different kinds, so you have to find one that works for you.
Go see a doctor right now for a pre pregnancy work up. They will check and make sure that everything is going right and that there aren't issues that need to be addressed before you get pregnant.
Start taking prenatal vitamins. They are good for you and you can take them all the time if you want. They will help build your stores of vitamins that the baby will need. They are fine to take whenever and you don't need a prescription, just the over the counter ones will be fine.
There are books you can get about fertility, maybe you will like to look into some of those also. Good luck!! I hope things work out.

Every woman's fertility is different and so Day 14 is just an average of when most women are ovulating. But you can get pregnant at any time during ovulation, and also before or after? How so? Because sperm can survive in your body for many days, so if you have marital relations before ovulation, the sperm can last until your egg is released days later. And conversely, even after you have ovulated (released the egg) the egg is not immediately shed and so can "meet up" with sperm days later.
Conception is never a guarantee, but you and your husband can improve your chances by first discovering what your fertility cycle is. For instance, you might actual ovulate closer to Day 12 or maybe Day 17. My cycles are pretty regular, but I see variation from time to time so you have to track it month to month.
If you'd like more info about tracking your fertility and also need more tips on maximizing your chances of becoming pregnant, check into the Couple to Couple League. They are great and lots of good books, supplies, etc. WWW.CCLI.ORG
Best of luck!

Most woman on a 28 day cycle are the most fertile 12 to 14 days from the first day of their last period. So you want to start counting from the day your period started and into your next cycle. Then days 12 to 14 are you best chances of getting pregnant.

basil thermo chart...what a pain. In order for it to be an ovulation resulting in pregnancy, the temp will stay up if done properly. I have seen women's charts that weren't done accurately and they were pregnant. Even taking it 30 minutes later one morning can throw your chart right off. You are right though, the drop means menstruation is on the way.If your cycle is 28 days, try this... keep taking the temps but on day 10, 11 and 12 do not have sex then have it on day 13 and 14.Always check for other signs of ovulation also. You need to have the cervical fluid to go with it.That what the swimmers need.It always improves the chances when you have build up..but not too many days, you want good swimmers...if you're super serious, slide a pillow slightly under your butt after to keep your pelvis tilted up and sperm in good luck!

you need to be at it all the time you can get preg anytime during your cycle. the best time is between the 10th and 17th days sperm can live inside you for up to 3 days so the idea is that the egg has to be fertilised within only a few hours when it is released so there has to be sperm there ready and waiting for it, its all very precise. so around those days the best thing to do would be twice a day. good luck

That it the start of the fertile cycle. It will last up till just before your flow starts. The peak time to get pregnant is a few days before the flow.
