The best dunker in the NBA.......everyone has their own opinion. Personally, I prefer the guys who dunk during the game, and, dunk right over the opponent. I've had the privilege of seeing a lot of todays players play. Today, I would have to say that Vince Carter is the best dunker in the NBA. Had he played 20 to 30 years ago he would still been among the best, if not the best. When it comes to dunking, Carter has done it all. Slam dunk contest dominator, jumped right over a center during international play, dunks over players all of the time. In todays' game he is the premier dunker. For the record, Dwayne Wade's stock is on the rise in the dunking game. He is quite the complete player. Provided he stays relatively healthy he will go down as one of the tops in the history of this game. Besides all of the popular dunkers names that always come up, like Jordan, Dominique, and, Dr. J, let's not forget David "the Skywalker" Thompson, who possessed a 48 inch vertical, and, also co-invented the "alley-oop" along with a teammate at NC State. Connie Hawkins was probaly the greatest dunker of all-time, this guy had huge hands which allowed him to squeeze, palm, and, cradle the ball while soaring through the air, similarly to that of Dr.J, but, before Dr.J did it. In the 80's a guard named Darrell Griffith dazzled the NBA after leaving Louisville. His name was Darrell Griffith, aka, Dr. Dunkenstein. This guy was quite the showman. Although he competed in slam dunk contest, he could , and, would dunk off of one league, both leagues, 360, lean in, on,and, under players during the heat of competition. Another Darryl, Dawkins, aka, Chocolate Thunder, is often referred to as the most powerful dunker in the history of the game, mainly because of his powerful dunks that lead to the shattering of backboards. Some might debate this, but, I believe it to be true....Dawkins' ferocious dunks and backboard destruction led to the NBA adopting the breakaway rims. Like I mentioned earlier, Vince Carter certainly could have played and dunked with the best of them many years ago. Certainly in todays' game, Vince Carter has earned the reputation as the best dunker.
