I've never heard of a HOSPITAL charging interest on late fees. Has the bill been sent to a collection agency ? They have no ethical obligations concerning your health so they could charge those fees.

Call the billing department of the hospital and as to speak to the billing manager. Odds are, once you bring it to their attention, they will write off the interest. They try to get away with whatever they can. Also, call your insurance company. This might be breaking the agreement that the hospital has to sign with the insurance company for the hospital to be participating in that insurance company. As usual, unfortunately, expect the run around. Don't expect that anyone will call you back, even if they promise. Call them back after one hour. Make sure you get first and last names ( if they are reluctant to give out last names, ask for an initial or an operator number ), Confirm which office you are calling. Many companies have customer service number that are 800 numbers. The incoming calls get shunted all over the country ( some even go overseas ) without you ever knowing it. That way, when you call back, you can say, " Yes, I spoke with Joe B., operator 32 in Cranford, NJ an hour ago and he said.." Stick to your guns and keep firing away. You can shoot down those costs.

Good luck

I haven't heard of a hospital charging intrest on a balance. Are you late on making payments? Are you being charged a late fee?
