Oh, you poor thing! Swimmer's ear can hurt really bad, and it sounds like you have a bad case of it!

It sounds like you have seen a doctor for your symptoms, and that you are on medication. Please talk to your doctor if the pain gets really bad; it could be an infection. Also make sure you take the medicine until it is all gone; stopping the meds (even if you feel better) could make the problem come back, worse!

Besides prevention, like not swimming or wearing ear plugs, here are some tips I found that help with my swimmers ear:

Make a mixture of 1 part water and 1 part vinegar. (You'll only need a little bit, not a gallon!) :) Find a friend with a steady hand or use a dropper. Lay on your side, and put one or two drops in the hurting ear. It will tickle and bubble as it goes in, so you are warned. It should be soothing! Stay on your side for 3-5 minutes, then let it drain out by turning that ear down (use a tissue to catch the drops.)

You can repeat this for the other side (if both are hurting you) and you can do this a few times a day. Usually twice works for me.

Another thing that helps me is a Q-tip dipped in the solution or in a little baby oil, and GENTLY applied to the inside of the ear where it hurts. Be sure to press gently!! You can damage your ear drum sooo easily.

Good luck, and I hope your pain goes away! Be sure to talk to your doc if the pain gets worse. Occasionally my swimmers ear turns into an ear infection, which hurts really bad. Feel better soon! :)

I know how you feel. I got a blazing ear infection at the start of Navy Dive Training "Pool Week", in which they basically beat you up under water, rip all your gear off, turn off your air, tie your hoses in knots, and then you have to put yourself back together without coming to the surface. The ear infection made it much more fun!
There is not a whole lot you can do for the infection. Like any infection, it will take time, rest, and keeping it clean for it to heal. I recommend using Domeboro Otic ear drops to keep it clean - thats what Navy Divers use. Besides that, keep it dry, get plenty of rest (even if you can't sleep). If it doesn't go away or get better within a week, go back and see your doctor. Good luck.

P.s. If it is the whole side of your face that is swole, you should go back and see the doc. I can understand the ear, but if your face or side of your head is swollen, than you have more going on.

Go to the doctor now. Swimmer's ear should not swell your face up. The naturopatic remedy for swimmer's ear is to put a few drops of rubbing alcohol into the ear then lie down with that ear on a towel. There is a device out there called Ear-Ease. I got it through a children's safety catalog ( Safety First, maybe ? ) Basically, it is an ear cup that will hold a small amount of warm water and surround the ear to allow it to warm up and relieve pain. Also, placing your ear on a hot water bottle wrapped up in a towel will do the same thing. If that doesn't work, your favorite over the counter pain killer ( Tylenol, Advil ) should work. Ask your OB/GYN for their suggestion on which one to use.

Again, go to the doctor now. You should not have swelling. Something else is up

Surely, that was Vincent Van Gogh who cut his ear off. He cut it off because he didn't like how it looked in his self portrait. Beethoven was deaf because his mother had active syphilis at the time of his birth.
Good luck

The specialist can make a tiny hole in your ear drum to drain your ear and relieve the pain. I had this done a few years' back. I lost a little hearing but it's really very slight. Only I noticed it. You can't stay this way for sure. Sort it out. Being pregnant can be tough enough!

I had a friend that had an ear problem like that and he had to have tubes put into his ears for the drainage. Water kept accumulating in his ear canal and wouldn't drian, so tubes were surgically put in for the drainage.

Hope this helps.
