I detest it. I'm a Mrs. and not afraid to say so. To me, "Ms." screams feminist (which I'm not).

I'd rather go by "Miss" I'm not married and I don't really like Ms.

Yes please. I do not need my personal details out in the open in business transactions. Miss and Mrs. tell right out a woman's marital status while men have no such thing. Ms. levels that problem out. It's a beautiful thing. But I prefer being called by my first name.

It would be in your best interest (and your daughters and nieces etc..) to look closer at what feminism really means. Women are fighting wars side by side with men and yet we still don't get equal pay. This is WRONG. Feminism does not mean you need to be "butch" or that you're a lesbian. It means that women's place in society is side by side equal with men. But it does not mean giving up feminine ways of behaving and being. It means that women have CHOICE about their lives and that we are not chattel owned by men.

Please investigate more so your daughters and nieces don't go through life getting paid less than they are worth.

Why do women feel the need to give the excuse that they're not feminists? Are you afraid that it would make you look like a lesbian to other people?

I am a feminist and darn-tooting proud of it!

Peace.

The term came about to show the respect that Mr. does...Mrs. & Miss were man-created to show whether the woman was available or not, however, that did not go the other way--you can't tell if a man is married or not in the title Mr... because women were not supposed to care about those things since they were not to be the aggressors of a relationship...Thankfully, we have learned much from man-stupid stuff like that.
Embrace your Mrs. with greatness, but allow the Miss to be happy with her title, even if not a virgin, and the Ms. to love hers, too....each as we see fit, because now we can.

I am with you on the Mrs. if you are married and proud of it than there should be no problem with it. But Ms doesn't bother me either. It is just two little letters it doesn't say anything about who you are as a person. Just that someone isn't sure how to properly address you.

When people call someone Ms it's just a title of respect. Ms. can be used for married or single. I wouldn't make such a big issue over it I'm sure they know you are married. And alot of times offices when sending out letters and they do not know wheather or not your married they put Ms.

Most people I know call married people Ms (pronouced it MS instead of Mrs.) I think it's just common or where you live.

It wouldn't bother me to be called Ms instead of Mrs.

Miss is single, MS. is married or single check out the website below.

Well, Ms. does sound a little dumb, but I don't wish to display my marital status to anyone who happens to see my name. Ideally, the Ms., Mr., Mrs. and Miss should all be dumped and just go with the names themselves.

If you looked in a dictonary you'd see that Ms. means a woman who isn't married.I'v certainly never seen feminist.

To me, "Miss" is for younger girls. I'm 27. Then "Ms." says "not young anymore and not even married yet" which makes me upset.

I do like it and I use it. I'm not a young girl and don't want to be a Miss.
However, I'm not married, either so Mrs. is no good. what's left?
And, by the way, I HATE Ma'am.
