I am just a little confused as to why most women feel that they need an egagement ring. Is it not good enough that they have found their soul mate, what does the ring really show???

This is something I wonder about myself, I didn't get and engagement ring and my life is just fine. I told my husband not to waste money on that and just it towards my wedding band. The engagement ring is optional but not a necessity. I personally don't think it's anything that you have to have. However, most women do tend to fall in love with the idea of having some bling bling to show off to other people, women get carried away by planning a big extravagant wedding and buying the perfect wedding gown. I am almost convinced that it's not even the man they think about until after the wedding is over, it's the idea that "she is getting married" that most women tend to be in love with. All the ring really shows is that they are engaged, and guess what? It only shows that if they actually tell people. Hee,hee

The ring shows the rest of the world what they have. This is a custom going back very far. Maybe not always in the form of a ring but many things were given to show to the rest of the men that this one girl is taken so to say. Now I think many women feel that tehy are showing what the man that loves them will give them to show off to the rest of the world. Remember it isn't always the girl that wants this it is said that a man should spend 1 months salary on the engagement ring. SO you figure it out.

Well there... Um ya I would love to get that ring but u know what it is just to sign off your love and it is next to an wedding band so i don't know why you need an engagement ring. As long as you know that you will be an marriage couple one day then you are fine. But you need to be committed to that person and know that you will be his for the rest of his life. But all you really need to know is that you have there love and they are there for you when you need someone to talk too and that is all...

it started out as a symbol for the man to show that the woman was taken, and for the woman, the cost of the ring showed that he was able to take care of her and any children that they might have.
But now it is for show only, that a woman can show off to her "friends" that she got a big ring. that's it.

honestly all it shows is that you were willing to make that commitment, work to get the ring, and it is a visual for the world that she is "off the market" I did not have an engagement ring, but i do have a wedding band.

it shows the connection between u and ur partner, that u r gettin married. It also makes people feel nice, cuz like they say 'diamonds r a girls best freind'

It shows PROOF that you really care. Not just words.
That you really DO intend to marry her.
And it's a custom that goes back many years.
It's the way things are and if she didn't get one - she may feel deprived or that you didn't care enough to give her one.
