Does it make noise when you try to start? Does it show anything on the screen?
Strangely enough many people agree that if you give it a whack on the back of it a few times it will start working.... I didn't believe it until I tried it.
read down through the posts on this message board... the guy talks about replacing a hard drive but many people suggest the whacking or throwing method first.

Go to the site and enter the serial code to see if your iPod can still be exchangable. My iPod has a one year waranty, so i sent it back to get a new one, but you have to pay for shipping which is like $40.

try taking out the battery and putting it back in...the battery may have been jolted off its connections because of the fall...
and you might want to do this with a fresh set of batteries...batteries can get damaged if dropped...
if that doesn't fix it then it's probably broken. You can try to get it repaired or buy a new one...

iPods use very small hard drives to store music, and they are very susceptable to damage, especially from dropping. If you dropped it before and it didn't break, you just got lucky. If your iPod is still under warranty, Apple will replace it for free.

Have you tried resetting it? tamper with the hold switch and hold down the middle--- I think thats how you do it. It take a long time but it usually works.
