Dog urine has enzymes in it that will keep the smell coming back if they are not broken down.
Almost any pet store has products: such as urine gone, etc. that will break down the enzymes and remove the smell permenantly.
Baking soda and oxy clean don't work. They seem to work for a while and then the smell will reappear like a bad dream.

I had a dog that used to pee on the carpet at night all the time in the same spot (this was when I was younger ;-) and I could never get the smell out. When my mom got the carpets changed it turned out that it had soaked through the carpet and started to get into the wood. So, you may need new carpet...or hardwood.
Lesson learned?...kids should never be allowed to have pets.

I like Urine be Gone. It is great for small areas. If you need to do the entire house, rent a carpet cleaner & go to a local pet shop to buy the good stuff. Remember always test a small hidden spot first to mark sure it won't stain.

Get your dog French-leathered to avoid future smells! Or keep the dog in the Government Guest House!

There's a product on the market now named Capture that works very well. Dogs actually seem to avoid the areas that have been sprayed with the stuff.
My wife is a dog groomer, so we have more experience with this subject than we'd like...

Baking Soda. my business teacher used to talk about how baking soda does so many things and talk on and on. She would say how her daughters dog peed on her carpet and she used baking soda to get rid of the smell and stain. Repeated couple times without even realizing it

There is a product called Nature's Miracle that I bought at PetSmart. The product is actually for cats, but I bet they have something similar for dogs too. Check out your pet store and see.
Hope this helps!

Natures Miracle from the pet store works really well. You have to use enough and cover the stain with a damp towel. To work right the enzymes that make it work have to have moisture. it takes about 3 days.
