THIS IS A HARD ONE, AND IT'S....SAD. (ALSO EXPLICIT)
THE ADVICE I WOULD GIVE MYSELF IS....TO STAND UP TO MY FATHER AND TELL HIM NO WHEN HE DID BAD THINGS TO ME. AND TO BE STRONG EMOTIONALLY, SO I WOULD KNOW THAT IT'S NOT MY FAULT. THAT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO DESERVE IT. THAT I'M NOT A BAD GIRL. AND THAT'S IT ALRIGHT TO TELL ON HIM. (I'M STARTING TO CRY..................) MAYBE..........MAYBE THEN IT WOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN ME SO MANY YEARS TO GET OVER IT. BUT I THINK SOMETIMES...............I'M STILL NOT...................

1. Keep jogging at least 4 x per week or else you will stay 114-119 lbs for the next year! Loser fatty!

2. Don't look weak b/c people will sense it and walk all over you.

3. If someone you care about looks upset, ask them what is wrong right then b/c you might not get another chance.

I'd go back and do the first two years of college a little differently. Say for instance not dropping a class because I didn't feel like getting up early, or taking more classes or taking them more seriously.

I would go back to my first day of highschool.
I was waiting for a friend from Primary School on my own. A group of girls asked me to join them but I said "no I am waiting for a friend". That friend never showed up that day and later turned into an abusive drug addict.
I would go back and say "yes" to those girls and would have spared myself being lonely at school for ALL of highschool. It was hell and I got depressed and nearly did myself permanent damage but thank goodness I have a brain and used it.

I would go back in time twenty-three years ago and realize my first marriage wouldn't work! Instead of playing the blame game, I'll tell you why: My ex and I shared nothing in common. I appreciate the arts and music; she wanted none of that. She loved football; I find it boring--unless I'm playing. ETC

Change majors in college.

A conversation on the campus of Vincennes University in 1985.

Me present: "Hey how are you?"
Me past: "Uh fine. Are you who I think you are and am I dreaming?"
Present: "No you are not dreaming. I am you in the future."
Past: "Ok, why are you here?"
Present: "I am here to tell you about part of your future."
Past: "Ok, why?
Present: "I want you to change majors."
Past: "Why?"
Present: "Look! We are good artists, but we are not doing well in 2006."
Past: "Oh! So, how bad are things?"
Present: "Well, we are a janitor at Covington High School."
Past: "No way!"
Present: "Yes way!"
Past: "Oh God! What should we do?"
Present: "Change your major to History and then transfer to Indiana State and study History Education. Trust me you will like it. We are good at History too."
Past: "I know, but why should I believe you?"
Present: "Been there! Done that!"
Past: "Been there? Done that?"
Present: "It's a saying from the future, it means exactly as it sounds."
Past: (after thinking a little) "Cool saying! Okay, I'll do it."
Present: "Good! You will not regret it. We will do better, not perfect, but better."
Past: "Can you answer any questions about the future?"
Present: "Not really. I cannot mess up the future too much, but I will say that you need to, in 1997, get a catalog called "Cherry Blossoms" no matter where you are living. You will meet your wife through this "catalog". She is Peruvian. You will love her, trust me.
Past: "Ok! I will be sure to do this. Thanks!"
Present: "No problem. Boy, Paul and Dave are looking at us rather strangely."
Past: "Isn't it funny."
Present: "Sure is. Well, I gotta go. So, do well. I am counting on you, okay."
Past: "Ok, see in you in the future, I guess?"

Me past and me present shake hands and me present leaps through the temporal rift and heads back to the present.

Well, first thing I would tell myself is to enjoy life. Enjoy each moment of your existence. Stop being afraid of being yourself and listen to your inner voice. Do not be afraid to be different. To not try to grow up so fast. I think it would make life so much more enjoyable to have known these things in my twenties than later. My choices would have brought me more joy, peace, and bliss.

Invest earlier and go to business school earlier. I spent way too much money on junk and booze in my 20s and spent 3 yrs. in education before I found out what I really wanted to do.

OK You asked for it. When I was young and foolish, feckless and reckless, I had a moment of enlightenment. I heard a voice that told me that everything would be alright, that I would do well eventually, and the reason the voice knew was that she was me. And she was right.
