The New Christy Minstrels

Kenny Rogers sang with a group called "The First Edition" - they had a handful of hits, the biggest of which was "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)", which reached the top 5 in 1968. After just two songs (that one, plus "But You Know I Love You"), the group was rechristened as Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, and they had hits with "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town" and Something's Burning.

The First Edition was originally created (including Kenny Rogers) by members of the New Christy Minstrels, after that group disbanded. Speaking of breaking up, Rogers left the First Edition in 1973 for a solo career.
