miss me but let me go

When I come to the end of my road
and the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little
but not too much
and not with you heads hung low
Remember the times we once shared
Miss Me but let me go

For this is a Journey we all must take
and each must go alone
It's all a part of the Master's Plan
A step on the road to home

So when you are lonly
and sick of heart go to friends we know
Bury your sorrow in doing good deeds
Miss me but let me go

We can shed tears that ... has gone
Or we can be happy that he lived.
We can close our eyes and pray that he will come back
Or we can open our eyes and see that he has left.
Our hearts can be empty because we can't see him
Or we can be full of the love that we shared.
We can turn our backs on tomorrow and live for yesterday
Or we can look forward to tomorrow because of yesterday.
We can remember ... and only that he has gone
Or we can cherish his memory and let it live on.
We can cry and close our minds, be empty and turn our backs
Or we could do what he would want; smile open our eyes, laugh, love and go on

I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I’m following the path God has laid you see.
I took His hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee
God wanted me now; He set me free.

It's called support from others, I found it on this website and I think this sums up what everyone needs after a death!

Don’t tell me that you understand.
Don’t tell me that you know.
Don’t tell me that I will survive,
How I will surely grow.
Don’t come at me with answers
That can only come from me.
Don’t tell me how my grief will pass,
That I will soon be free.
Accept me in my ups and downs.
I need someone to share.
Just hold my hand and let me cry
And say, “My friend, I care.”

To make it fit for your friend it would obviously sound better as:

I wont tell you I understand,
I wont tell you that I know.
I wont tell you, you'll survive,
How you will grow.
I wont come at you with answers,
That can only come from within, you see.
I wont tell you your grief will pass,
That you will soon be free.
I will accept you through your ups and downs.
When you need someone to share.
I'll just hold your hand and let you cry,
And say "My friend, I care"

This is also nice, short and sweet...
No Person is Ever Truly Alone
by Richard Fife

No person is ever truly alone.
Those who live no more,
Whom we loved,
Echo still within our thoughts,
Our words, our hearts.
And what they did
And who they were
Becomes a part of all that we are,
Forever.

There's loads at the website below on all subjects of bereavement.
Hope it helps.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there,I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow

When you awake in the mornings plush
I am the uplifting hush
Of silent birds in audid flight
I am the stars that shine at night

Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there I did not die.

Cant actually remember who wrote it but I think its kind of touching as no one ever really dies if their memories can live on through you.
