There is no research that shows the body builds up a resistance or immunity to hormonal birth control methods, like the Depo Provera shot, or any type of birth control pills.

No. "Immunity" is such a vague term that encompasses everything from narcotics (tolerance) to the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. None of these mechanism apply to hormonal therapy for birth control. Failures in birth control are directly related to a failure to take it, one reason why depo injections such as depo provera are so popular.

I don't believe so, but be careful when you come off of it. Depending on how long your on it, you can be infertile for awhile. So when you do decide to try and get pregnant keep that in mind. Ask your doctor for an information packet on depo provera. He/she should gladly give you some information. Also Yahoo health is very helpful. I suggest doing a lot of research on medication your taking. Take it from a person who is on all sorts of crazy stuff.

Absolutely. The first few answers are incorrect. You can infact build an immunity to birth control as with any drug, prescription or other. However the amount of immunity you will build is liable to be very little and the chances of you becoming fully immune is extremely rare.

Depo Provera is for regulation and the person I knew it used it to get regular so she could get pregnant. It is very harsh and will change your body chemistry. Anything could happen.

No, But sometimes you need a change of dosages. After a certain amount of time. Also if you go off of it and have a baby, you may need a different dosage. Changing doses depends on hormones. Your OB-GYN will know when and if you need a change. And certain Medications can interfere with how your birth control works.

not a resistance persay, but that doesn't mean it can't just stop working for you after years of use - hormones are strange that way. If you've been having breakthrough bleeding, it's obviously not elevating/controlling the hormones the way it should. Go talk to your OBGYN and get her thoughts on it - it could be that she'll want to switch you to something different.

I'm willing to bet that the answer is yes, because you can build up an immunity to nearly every other medication or hormone, to a certain extent.

Not really, as it is a natural hormone that your body produces, it is just given in a mass dose.
