Maybe they'll close, maybe not. The park actually makes good money. That's not the problem. The problem is that Six Flags (the company that owns the park) is very deep in debt, and bleeding cash to make the payments. Also, Six Flags is trying to cultivate a more Disney-fied family image, and Magic Mountain, with all the wild roller coasters attracts rowdy teens. So, the place is for sale.

It could go to another theme park operator, in which case it would remain open, or it could go to a real estate developer, in which case it would shut down and be turned into houses. This could happen because the value of the land they're on may be higher than the value of the profits the park can make. I've also heard a story that it might be sold to an oil company, but that's not confirmed. If it goes to an oil company, it might or might not remain open (they could do slant drilling underneath without disturbing the rides if there's oil down there). Stay tuned.

The decesion has not been made to shut the park down yet. What decesion has been made is to sell the park, whether that be to people who want to keep the park open, or close it for more houses (doesn't CA have enough houses?). The county is even trying to save the park, offering anything it can for its largest employer and moneymaker.

If enough people want the problem resolved, boycott Six Flags until they fire the CEO Mark Shapiro, he's selling/closing 6 parks this year along with Astroworld last year. He is also cutting off thrill rides in search of kiddie rides, he is ruining the company and needs to be fired immediately.

This article suggests that it's because they want to sell off the land for money for future development and have cited problems with teens as th main reason.

Several high-profile crimes dismayed residents, including a gang-related stabbing spree in 1985, a riot that spilled from the park to businesses in 1993 and the shooting death of a teen in the parking lot in 1998.

In announcing his intention to sell Magic Mountain, Six Flags Chief Executive Mark Shapiro cited the park's rowdy teen atmosphere and how it has made it difficult to attract families.

"Once you burn Mom, she is not rushing back," Shapiro said.

Although Shapiro said it was possible that Magic Mountain would be sold to another theme park operator, some real estate experts have said the land is so valuable that converting it for housing or housing-retail development probably would yield the greatest profit.

Real estate experts estimate that the land could be worth at least $200 million.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Valencia Ca.

It is up for sale with the hope that it will continue to be a theme park..............

but because of the developers who are willing to put up the money it is very unlikely that it will stay open past this year......

Unless LA county or Valencia step in it will probably be turned into a housing complex within the next 2 years.........

it fairly is regrettably so real. the haters might desire to get a existence and could learn how to stay with the actual incontrovertible fact that they stay close to the amusement park all the people who stay close to there are a team of a-wholes, they don't comprehend what they are doing, yet i see a insurrection forming.....>> quit six flags i assume.

wow good to know, i know the great america (six flags) in gurnee seems to be totally empty, they raised the prices and put in a new water park last year but it seems like no one is going there. might have something to do with the no smoking OUTSIDE ban they are really overstepping their bounds on that one, why cant you smoke outside?
