Alice In Chains - Great lyrics, Layne Staley's voice is one of a kind. They were very influential.

Fugazi - They created their own sound, an experimental style of punk rock, and then they kept reinvinting their own sound. If you haven't heard them, seriously, check them out. You might find them somewhat hard to listen to, but once you "get it," you will love this band. Check out their last CD "The Argument."

The Beatles- This is such a safe pick, but they really were a good band. Who else could start off as a down to earth pop act (basically a boy band), and then start doing acid and become a total psychadelic/experimental band, and still have #1 albums and singles? I'd like to see Back Street Boys or My Chemical Romance bust out sitars and play songs in weird time signatures.

Frank Zappa & Affiliates: The man was a musical genius, and composed for all genres.

Led Zeppelin: 4 great talents combined to produce so many classic songs and licks.

I can't decide between the Beatles for... being the Beatles and Hendrix for awesome guitar chops, so I'll put them both.

Soundgarden.
...Superunknown was probably the greatest album in the history of music.

The Beatles
...so many hits so many fans. numbers don't lie

Nirvana.
...thanks to Nirvana, the 90's had grunge...Kurt Cobain was a mastermind, sad he is gone...but look what Dave Grohl has done with Foo Fighters...which is a far cry from what Nirvana was and still is.
