When you say "post 80's", do you mean after 1980? Because the first two Hellraiser movies were made in the 80's. So, post 1980, I'd have to say The Shining, too.
And the movie Hostel, that was one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen. It wasn't "scarey", it was just gross.

Some people have picked some terrible examples of Horror films. Check out the JApanese version of Ring or Dark Water. Hideo Nakata is the horror master!!

The Haunting is meant to be horror, not really scary makes you jump here and there but has a great plot and exellent cast, well worth watching. And for fear fator Ghost Ship is V V scary the first 2-3 times you see it. The relic is good too. But for ULTIMATE FEAR it has to be Gothika it scared the living daylights out of me and my mum and dad, my mum is sooo not easy to scare.

Yes I agree, I loove Hellraiser, however, I like the Halloween's also.

If I can stretch the "Horror" genre definition a bit I'd have to say Misery. It's more thriller than horror, but it is an amazingly made film, brilliantly shot and tense as anything.

Well, sorry to dissapoint but mine is The Shining. 80's movie, but brilliant.
