I've always dreamed of moving to new york and something that I have always dreamed of was a new york christmas. It looks so nice, skating in central park, everything looks wonderful... Is it really like that in Detroit? I'm from a small town in Michigan, its gotta b better than here...

Well I've never been to Detroit, so I can't say whether it's better or not. But I do have to say, "come on, it is New York". Out here we are really joined when it comes to Christmas. Besides fighting for the sales and clearances at K-mart or really big stores like that. Central Park is really beautiful when it snows. I don't ice skate (Roller blade in cement), but I like going around the snowy days and sitting there with my boo. I've taken my nieces and nephews a couple of times too. There is a lot of people Downtown but people from different countries and states come down to New York to do their Christmas shopping and it's incredible to see so many different faces. It is very unique though. The music, the lights, the gifts that you receive from giving people. It's all wonderful. Hope you can experience it one day.

Christmas in New York is just wonderful - the lighting of the beautiful tree, the stores all elaborately decorated, once in a while some snow, the skating, the people in better moods than normal, it's just great. If you can't move there, at least visit at Christmas time.
Sorry, know nothing about Detroit (did live in NY for a few years). They are a big city though, so it's probably really nice too.

Theyve got cars big as bars
Theyve got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
Its no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold christmas eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me
You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of new york city
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night
The boys of the nypd choir
Were singing galway bay
And the bells were ringing out
For christmas day

Up till 5 yrs in the past I lived my finished existence in the Bronx and each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, whilst my young little ones have been little i might take them right down to the city to confirm the "vast tree", watch the ice skaters, at Rockefeller middle, pass to the Nativity at St Pat's and do FAO Schwartz and in simple terms look in any respect the shop decorations. I pass over NYC for the vacations, not a similar with palm timber :)

My brother lives in FL. Last year he and his family went to New York for Christmas. They had a blast. He used to live in Novi, Michigan. Do you know where that is.?

I've always dreamed of living in NYC also, just haven't done it yet. I did spend a Christmas there it was spectacular. The lights, the tree in Rockefeller Center the decorations. Don't let these scrooges talk you out of it

I'm from MI too. I dream of seeing the Macy's Parade one day. The Detroit one is okay... I always flip back and fourth to the different parades.

Don't ever let movies convince you of anything in the real world! They're going to be glossy reproductions of someone's idea, not the everyday reality. Visit these places first, then decide if you like them.

Don't move. Visit first and if you like it go back and visit when it's not Christmas. You'll have to like it year round ya know.
I agree though, I would love to be there for Christmas, maybe I'll see you there.
:)

I do not know about Christmas but we spent new year last year in NYC and it was not enjoyable at all. We have to line up and been packed like sardines and no place to pee.
