In some States (USA) it’s illegal for unmarried couples to live together. So technically that's forcing marrige onto people, at least I think so.

My BF saw this on our local news, & that local politicians in NC want to enforce it! Other politicians in other States are pushing for the same messed up laws (either making them law or keeping existing old ones, & trying to enforce those laws too).

Hopefully, more states will follow suite as more cases of discrimination arises.

Domestic Partnership; For the courts and judicial system to actually go about and monitor house holds would be very costly and inefficient. I do not believe creating laws or imposing standards where couples are forced into marriage is legal however no one is forced. The union is something that two people have the free will to decide on their own whether or not they want to take on something as serious. The law has nothing to do with that.

Side note to the addtl info:
I believe it will be an attempt an unsuccessful attempt as many legislative bills are brought before annually in the thousands and just get tossed out. It is something that I believe they are bringing up to get a public take or concensus regarding the topic. The legislators and politicans are trying to get a better assessment about public opinion regarding this by airing it out publically to see if they may have something here. The govt at local, state, and federal level can gain from this b/c of marriages that are created there is also additional taxes (estate taxes). This can be lucrative for them in their district or state.

Bottomline..... I do not think this will fly at all. No need to worry.

No this law will stand in line for while a longer before enforcement is even casually considered. There's too much real crime that has to be dealt with.

Don't believe everything you hear on the local news ... Many times enforcement of a law is instigated by a group who is really trying to get the law changed ... because they know enforcing the law will never happen

But how often is that law enforced? Very rarely, I expect.

No, it's not right, but change can be a very slow thing to happen. Beside, if you're not ready for an actual marriage, why go into what's essentially the same situation?

I doubt seriously that those laws are enforced. And show me the politician that is willing to go out there and demand that people be able to live together "in sin" legally. That will have to be challenged in court before it is ever changed.

Noooo.. Am, that's the way people know each other better, you cannot force anyone to get married... or be your friend or be someone she/he doesn't want to be! I know there's a lot of marriage pressure now a days.. but that's something beyond your question...
