It really depends about any other symptoms. It can be blood pressure, heart problem, and or even other neurolical issues.

My father always complains of numbness in his hands when his blood pressure is really up. This sometimes is accompanied by a swelling in his arms or legs. Do you have any of those symptoms?

Consult a doctor! You never know how serious it might be.

This could be a result of a neck injury or tightness of the neck muscles.Try sleeping on your back with your neck supported.Numbness in some but not all of the fingers could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.Regardless you should probably see a doctor as this could be serious.

there is a number of things such as your heart is trying to tell you something, you could have poor circulation, there could be a pinched nerve in your arm or hand. Best to be checked by your doctor or give his nurse a phone call and leave a message for her to call you back, explain your situation because this could be of great importance.

For me it was carpel tunnel. Does your hands also do to sleep at night and when you awake you find them above your head? Do you do repetitive work. You might want to consult your doctor. It was the best thing I have ever done, TWICE. I have both my hands done.

carpal tunnel syndrome, poor circulation (due to a blood clot or otherwise), compressed nerves (other than carpal tunnel syndrome), stroke...
can't really tell you more unless you're more specific, but I would recommend talking to a doctor about it.

It could be carpal. I had that in both hands, then had the surgery (laser, not the knife) and now its all gone.

But you should always talk to your doctor and see what he/she says.
