I'm a liberal. I'd like to hear an intelligent justification for being a conservative. It seems like real conservativism could make some sense, but with all the bull going around these days I've really taken to the left. Can anyone give me a good reason why liberals are wrong and conservatives are right?

I don't think its right or wrong. Its different approaches and philosophy to govern.

There are good conservative principles--
- Focus on the Individual and less focus/control by Government
- Smaller Government is good
- Less taxes lead to more money in your pocket. Who knows how to spend it better than you?

Mind you-- we don't get alot of these in practice.

Well the best way I can explain it is (and by the way thank you for your intelligent question) that Liberals depend on the government to save them. The experience in Lebanon is a good example. Instead of heeding State Department warnings (4 in the last 2 years) they go there with no plan to get out if trouble starts. Then when trouble does start they look to the Mr. Bush to come and get them (like teenagers at a party) and are unwilling to pay anything toward their own passage home. A conservative depends on him self. If a conservative found himself in this situation he would have put some money aside and had a plan in place to get out. This is the best that I can explain it. I'm sure others will do a much better job than I did.

Real conservatism does make sense. But the present bunch seem to have confused conservatism with something else. Hope you get a good answer. I'll check back

Liberals corrupt our government, for instance the liberals complain about high gas prices, yet they won't let oil companies drill for oil in Alaska. Liberals just mess up our government and waste time with their protests, and ****, like same sex marriages!

we need to stick to the constitution the constitution protects natural rights which have existed for all time, although the const. was written a long long time ago it doesn't change what it protects because the protection is still needed now more than ever
