I have a blank canvas, what should I paint today?

Depends on your style.

Do you draw portraits? Enviornment? Abstract?

A good thing to do to enhance your skills is to drive somewhere you havent been, and just sit for a little while, and think of something to draw in the area. Then go for it.

I cant draw or write neatly. I don't have the luxury. I've tried.

I'm going to guess it's with acrylics.

I only do oil painting...have done over 100 oil paintings of different sizes and styles, but believe I found my niche.

Do birds, imagine the wildest kind of bird, with lots of crazy colored feathers. Pour on the colors.

Then, who knows, you may like what you've created.

Abstract is more popular than realism, though I'm close to the best around in realism. I have some of my paintings for view on a web site.

Somebody put me to shame recently. An artist by the name of Karen Kirk Shields did some equine oil paintings, about nine by ten feet each, and I was in total awe.

I know I can do just as well if I had the time. Again, realism.

Go for abstract. Do a bird sitting in a tree, getting close to sunset. Crazy colors. People like that.

Try experimenting with color.

Make a mountain picture that's monochromatic, like all blues, all orange or all shades of brown, including the sky.

You could do a sunset with a sillouette in black of an Indian, a cowboy, or a palm tree on a beach.

An apple.
Apples are always good to paint: they are round, they sit still, they don't talk much, and they can be pretty.
They also get lonely when nobody paints them.
