Each state has a different number. You'd have to go to state's election board, and find out how many have registered. Other nations have political parties, and some are pluristic. Of course, these are not the same as the ones in the US. But there are some common international values that link political parties from the US with those around the world.

It is very difficult to keep track. There are always new parties being formed with several members. There is a Nazi Party, Socialist Party, Communist Party, etc. in the United States among many others.

Nearly every ideology is covered by these groups, but the Democrats and Republicans incorporate the views of many groups into one broad platform. This is why most people tend to say that they are either "liberal" or "conservative" ...
