I really like the instrumentral parts of the following songs (1989-1992):Playin' in the Band, Crazy Fingers, Dark Star and some Drumz and Space. Is there a Jazz(?) band that plays like this a majority of the time? I would really appreciate a good answer. Thank you.

Take a leap and try some early John McLaughlin "Between Nothingness and Eternity," "Dream," "Birds of Fire."

One of my favorites is Duane Allman and the Allman Bros Band, "Live At Fillmore East." The tune, "You Don't Love Me" will move you to tears, as will "Whipping Post." Yeah, they were considered Southern Rock, but Duane Allman was a genius on guitar. He deserves a place in the jazz arena.

John Abercrombie is another. Try his album "Timeless."

This isn't an ideal answer, but some of Bruce Hornsby's new stuff has a jazz feel and sounds like the dead, as does Phish.

There is a band called "Jazz is Dead" that covers Dead music quite well. Go to Allmusic.com for more info.

hahaha, My boyfriend is a "dead head" and he always laughs at the Drums n' Space..its ALWAYS improvised..completely unplanned so there wont be much that sounds like it im afraid. It was always the part of the concerts where fans would have a pee break.
