They can be good or bad, but certainly not role models. A child's parents should be role-models and should have raised them right so they can enjoy rap and still be good people. If a child is educated and knows not to do bad things, they should be able to watch about anything and realize it is just entertainment. Too many parents let T.V. and other influential things raise their kids for them. Its a shame really because my own children will have to grow up with them.

Vanilla Ice...oh wait...yeah he has.
Last time I checked, will smith wasn't rap. Not since the DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince album. When a guy sings a song like "Just the Two of Us" you're no longer considered rap.
Also, LL Cool J isn't a rapper any more. He's more of an actor if anything.
...and asker...there's nothing wrong with singing about "ho's and drugs and killin cops" because if there was, people wouldn't buy the album right? I mean, disrespecting women is the whole reason i'm going to go out and buy the next 50 cent album that comes out...matter of fact, when I get home from work tomorrow, and see my "ho" I'm gonna tell her about how I want to go to the candy shop, and ask her if she wants to lick the lollipop, because, ya know, that's exactly what she wants to hear after a long day at work.

I don't listen to rap, I do know that MOST rappers have not been to jail. That is the truth. It's lame that the ones that do brag about it yes, and they are bad role models, but MOST rappers have not been to jail. Hell, P Diddy is from Conneticuit, he's a suburban boy. It's image. Truth is there are few good role models in ANY part of popular culture. Mattel was going to make Pussycat Dolls dolls for liitle girls until parents put a stop to it. Little girls are growing up idolizing Britney Spears, whose image is far too sexualized for her fan base. They also look up to Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson who are famous for being dumb but pretty. Kids don't have a chance these days, and it goes far beyond rap. Rap teaches men to be criminals, pop teaches girls to be dumb and slutty. If we add rock stars to the equation, we have drug abusing maniacs that sleep around, and country, well, country is just lame.

besides will smith, i really cant. rappers are on par with convicts as far as role models go. its kinda pathetic how much of America seems to worship these people, mostly teens but it certainly isnt limited to that age group. The content of their songs contains things you would probably only hear in R-rated movies and yet KIDS are listening to this stuff. Just the other day i heard my brother 'singing' (if you can call it that) Miss New Booty, and he's in 6th grade! America needs to rethink its role models.

I don't like rap, but are rappers really much different than rockers? Those guys aren't role models either. The whole basis of music is rebellion, so people should look elsewhere for role models.
Bigger problems in our society than music are the complete breakdown of the family and our education system.

First of all, I would say that LL Cool J started off fresh as a backyard rapper for fact from fiction.."like I'm gone to knock you out, mamma said knock you out"..his all time favorite which are still rapped on todays streets by todays youth and even men like myself..." I mean I still like the hip-hop rap game, so please don't get me wrong when I say that others can do better just like my man L.L. However, he has survived the rap game for many years and decut from annoying rappers of today..Not mentioning anyone or any groups..But, (L.L.COOL J ) has class, flava, style, a low-profile.Intergrated with many diverse situation coming from or growing up from the streets of harlem to wealth businessman with benefits world-wide. I think the best way to answer your question is to think about what you would do with your life in order to compete with the next generation in the next 5 to 10 years with the following key words: "comfortably and affordably."
In conclsion, everybody is out there to make money for some chronological means rather by : Rapping, Suiting up everyday for your 9 o'clock meeting, baby sitting,ect.. "But remember money makes the world go 'round and 'round and it's the root of all evil."

Bow wow and Jay Z and LL Cool J and Will Smith
I think that they should not be a role modal that is what your parents are. And it makes me sad to know that some kids out there have parents that have done worse than the rappers and that the kids were there to witness it all.

I didn't know rappers sing, I thought they rap, hehe.
What do you want them to talk about, that's how they lived.
They're just speaking the truth about what's out there
Some rappers think positively about it hoping for better days while others think of no other way to live and they'll be like that untill they die.
People like to watch movies with violence so maybe that's why people are attracted to music with violence.
