Most of the info I have on hand is for .Mac's, if you want a Dell or a PC I'm sure they'll have similar programs!
Go to the .Mac website. There are different things you can try...are your parents educators? If they are, there's a discount. There are also refurbished macs you can buy at a cheaper price. Also, if you buy the programs and install them yourself (such as Office for Mac) the computer turns out cheaper as well. By the by, it's really not that hard to install software yourself. If they still don't want to try to strike up a deal with them...have them give you a "loan" that you can work off. You may end up giving up your allowance, working harder for better grades, not staying out as late, or turning over your paycheck. Any number of those.
Also, try to convince them with research. Children who have computers at home get better grades than those who don't. It's proven!

I can see their concern why they don't want you to have a computer in your room, but if you're responsible then there should be no problem. I think the best way to convince them is not to argue but to demonstrate that you are responsible enough to have one in your room. Tell them that you will keep your door open when you are on the computer and allow them to have a password so they know when you are on. Earn their trust first and work it out with them. Ask them to allow you more freedom as you get older as long as you stick to their rules. Try it out and see what happens. For every reason they give you to not have a computer, offer them a solution. But remember, you have to be RESPONSIBLE!! Think about the reasons why you want one in your room and if your parents would have a problem with any of them.

Promise them you won't go on Myspace or any of those sites. Of course, you probably will, but tell them you won't. I think that is what most parents worry about and justifiably so.
Just show that you are responsible.

You obviously have access to a computer, so you do not need one in your room. If you can not come up with a truthful, objective argument for one in your room then you do not need one.

To late. If they won't let you have it then they already know what is going on.
