You can place a bar of soap (Ivory) under your sheet when you sleep at night. The scent from the soap will help relax the muscles, thus no more leg cramps.

Magnesium capsules taken an hour before bedtime (300-600mg total dosage) have always helped when I've had leg cramps. Some people prefer a calcium/magnesium combination but the plain magnesium always worked best for me. Another option is quinine capsules or a glass of tonic water containing quinine drank before bedtime. Bananas are another good option if potassium is the mineral deficiency triggering your cramps. The best remedy depends on what is causing your cramps, so you might need to experiment to find out what works best for you.

You might find this interesting:

(1) Stand up and walk around to stretch it out - slightly painful
(2) Relax and massage it out - still painful but you'll get your aggravation out
(3) Tie a black thread (sewing string and must be pure black) around your ankle. Never take it off. Reduces the number of occurrences of cramps.
(4) Massage leg prior to sleeping on a foot massage or by hand
(5) Take the power from the husk of the rice. They sell this in vitamin stores.
(6) Vitamins
(7) Combination from the above

Low potassium might be the problem. Try eating bananas or some other high K fruit or vegetable.

If you wake up with a leg cramp, stand up immediately on the floor. If you feel it coming on, flex your foot up towards your knee.

This could be caused by several things but a doctor can tell you best. Some of the things that I know of are potassium supplementation as many have said but it is more likely dehydration. So drink more fluids. You could also be deficient in calcium so a little extra could help. This could also be an electrolyte imbalance (ratio of potassium to sodium etc) in which case a doctor should be consulted. Some of these simple fixes may help.Milk is rich in both potassium and calcium but even the RDA for both is pretty high.3000 mg and 1500 mg respectively

Absoluetly. When that happens it means you have a lack of potassium or calcium in your diet. Try taking a supplement if you don't eat foods that have enough of those ingerdients in them. But, the whole main cause of "leg cramps" or what some people call "charlie horses" is a lack of calcium and/or potassium.

tonic water with quinine. In wwone the used the quinine to help the troops that had been in the trenches for a long time. when it was time to charge the legs would cramp. they found out that quinine was the drug that stoped leg cramps. you can buy tonic water at any major grocery chain. it's cheap, and it works. i have neuoprothy in my feet and legs, that is how i know. ask your dr about quinine pills, but the tonic water is chaper, but you will have to get used to the taste.

I've heard people say to put an unwrapped bar of soap under your sheet near your legs and it will make the cramps go away!

Many folks say that it works!

drink water and take a potassium supplement every day

about half an hour before bed take some valarian and melatonin.
these can be found in any health food store or vitamin aisle in your local drug store... both are very very mild muscle relaxers.

another supplement that can help is calcium with magnesium and vitamin D (make sure it's chelated, it'll say so on the bottle) .... also a very very mild muscle relaxer.

Try Kava Kava and Potassium. The first to relax the muscles and the second to help break down the lactic acid that can lead to cramping.
