I keep seeing this word applied to some of the folk asking questions and I don't think it means a creature that lives under a bridge. What's the deal?

A troll is a person who goes through threads, just looking to start a fight on that forum. He/She goes through and disagrees with whatever the thread is about, even if he/she has even seen/used/heard/felt that particular thing. Its not uncommon to see trolls anymore, and its very aggravating to everyone when someone begins to troll into your forum. Hope that helps you out man.

Usually someone uses the word troll if they disagree with someone. But in reality an Internet Troll is someone who flames others, posts alot of anti statements, says things for the sole purpose of causing trouble. It's mocking, flaming, impersonating, rileing and that sort of thing. Not to be confused with someone who is truely passionate about something and having an honest opinion or reaction to something said.

Someone that asks questions for attention. Like, if you're trolling a forum that means you're trying to get attention. Most trolls ask really biased questions or questions they know the majority of people feel strongly about and will respond to.

According to Wikipedia:

In Internet Forums

A person who enters unknown forums who bashes and insults forum members with unfounded arguments, or anyone that enters any sort of internet community for the sole purpose of harassing others is often referred to as a troll.

Trolling is asking or saying something that will easily generate a lot of responses (usually heated ones) simply for the sake of itself - so the troller feels they have gotten the attention (positive or negative) of a bunch of people.

For example, on a predominantly born-again christian blog, someone posting anti-christian statements but with no real point, is a Troller.

Some of the folks on here like to ask questions that are intended to outrage and insult others. Or promote violence. Or are sexually sick.

Those are the trolls.
