Unsafe drinking water kills almost ten million people each year, mostly children, from easily preventable illnesses like diarrhea. I'm looking for creative ideas as to how solve the problem, and powerful allies in this fight.

Convince democractic nations with good water to supply initiate a modest fund and provide technical expertise to any nation that needs clean water. More good quality, available resources tend to perpetuate a more peaceful and productive population as well as better international relations and trade. The case just needs to be made repeatedly to the right people.

concentration on digging wells somewhat of procuring for bottled water. That way there'll be a gradual grant. Have a fundraiser via having people supply up bottled water and donate the money they save to UNICEF or some reason which will dig the wells.

Yes get the world population back to a sustainable point where we're not poluting the water we're trying to drink in the first place.
That number is around 2 billion ( not "6" billion + and counting )

Yeah, make the factories stop using rivers for chemical and waste dumping grounds. Make them pay to clean it up, even if it bankrupts them.
Facts - we all have to have air to breathe and water to drink or we die. Screw those two thing up and everything dies. EVERYTHING!
