PS3 will be expensive, not just the console, but the games. You might not be able to resell the games or buy used games at a future time, seeing as sony patented technology for locking the game to the console.

Xbox 360 will be cheaper and for the same price as a PS3 you will probably be able to buy 1 or 2 games, and get a year subscription to their online service.

You also have to consider that you may not be able to get a PS3 when it first comes out (unless you are willing to pay even more to someone on EBay :P). You could wait, and that is a very valid thing, and I would not be surprised if that is what Sony expects a lot of users to do.

The PS3 in the end will probably sell more. The reason being is that the console is being made to last a long time. At least that is what sony was saying their strategy is. If the console is made to last 10 years, when xbox 360 users are looking at either buying a xbox 720 or buying a PS3 that performs comparibly despite it's age and has a lot of games for it that have similar level graphics.

Honestly the way technology almost doubles every 18 months, I'm not sure about them wanting the PS3 to last 10 years is realistic.

So you could just buy the xbox 360 now and wait for the PS3 to be more reasonable in price and buy it then.

Also, if you don't have an HDTV, you are going to want to get one, most games that I know of for the 360 and PS3 are being developed for at least 720p. They will work in lower resolution but a lot of the graphics will be hard to see and read. Take that cost into consideration.

The technical aspect is ignoring the core coding..

Better programming interface can be more effecient, than one on a slightly more powerful platform which is less offecient.

Rely on any OTHER sony operating systems? Besides, the tech advantage is slight, and even arguable because both systems use different architecture.

Bottom line for power is effeciency. A few MB, or GHZ more dont matter more than the coding.

I personally think the 360 will be found to be better than the PS3. My PC uses Direct X, so does the 360. The direct x engine is a ongoing work, not only for the gaming system, but for the microsoft os. Therefore getting 2x the attention... I dont think sony can beat the direct x system... However, since both is a hardy investment, i recomend renting both (usually 20$ for 3 or 4 days with a same as system value put down on credit card). Rent the most popular games.

At the end you will have spend 65$ on renting systems, and happy with your half thousand dollar investment.

Offically, according to hardware specs alone, the PS3 will be able to pull off greater feats than the Xbox 360. But even Nintendo knows that graphics aren't everything (ex: Nintendo Revolution). The proof of the pudding will be in the games. The PS3's difficult game development requirements and high costs may scare away from brand names, but it hasn't yet. The Xbox 360 has failed to get many exclusives so far, limiting their potential as of yet. My advice is to go do your own research. I plan to get a PS3 hands down, and maybe a Wii. I kind of like the idea of swinging that remote around and having my character on the screen waving around a sword or hammer.

PS3 is way more powerful than 360 but I say 360 because I might actually be able to aford it. Also a lot of PS3 games will be ported to the 360 any way.

PS3 costs more, but will be well worth it. better graphics, better games, connects to psps, bigger hard drive, plays Blu-Ray discs, CHROME ACCENTS (on the $600 version), an internet browser, and if it comes with a Linux OS installed as its rumored it will be a fully functioning, and super fast, computer. with all that $600 is a bargin.
