I believe it is a nose ring with a screw.

are u wearing a earring as ur nose ring? lol
i wear the ones that are bend-to-fit, it has no backing!
UPDATES: u can just pull it out by using your finger to kind of move it outward slowly, its very easy! =) bend-to-fit is the best outta all other types which comes with the ball in the end!

4 sum reason, im able 2 wear mine w/o a back *anyway* just pull ur nostril upward, use the other hand 2 unscrew it.

If you can't do it yourself, go to your piercer and ask him/her to do it.
