Don't buy a used mattress from anyone or any place (Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.) You have no idea how roughly it's been used or how many babies have slept on it, etc. With my second son, we bought his mattress at Wal Mart. It's a baby Sealy and it's nice...he sleeps well on it. I think it was about $40.

wal marts cheapest is about 30$ i would try rummage sales and second hand stores for a bassinet or something like that until they outgrow it (about 4 or 5 mo.) then you might have some more $$ to get one. I know how it is to be short on cash. I had to buy double everything

Never get a used mattress. It could have stains, bedbugs, etc. on it and I don't think you want that for your little bundle of joy. If you have to, just get a bassinett. They are around $100 so for now instead of getting a crib and a mattress which could get pricey, just get a bassinett.

No, my youngest is 14 now, but perhaps goodwill has something in a very close price range. I am not sure where a store is in IL, but you should be able to find one in the phone book.

Good luck, and congrats!!!!!!
