Some kid came to my house to try to sell me a $2,000 vacuum from kirby. I think that is wayyy to much money for a vacuum. My question is does anyone out there own a Kirby? And if so is it worth the 2 grand being asked for it?

no its not worth it, but if he comes back invite him in, cos he will hover and shampoo your house and clean the bed sheets all for free as part of his demo. what a job, imagine doing 40 houses a week, could you be bothered doing your own housework when you got home.

When new all machines clean well. I have had a Kirby for nearly twenty years without any but routine upkeep. The aluminum body, lexan plastic tools and usually higher grade materials are all still in good function. Not sure if the price premium over a high end Hoover, Eureka or similar machine which are now $ 400.00 plus, appeals to everyone. Often a slightly used model from a reputable person or dealer is a great alternative... The shampoo attachment is useful especially with pets. There are some minor points regarding how the motor, brushes, insulation and housing are more well sealed from the dirt's path, at least with the Gen III, as I have. I have just finished cleaning a Eureka Altima bagless vacuum, received as reward through where I used to work, at my sister's house for four years... Their house is from 1882 and has all hard wood floors and prefer sweeping. This is to be donated because it is slightly better than nothing. Unfortunately, at year's end when received Altima, also got a 1099 for like $200.00... I would rather use a 20 year old Kirby than a new bagless vacuum.

I currently own a Dyson. I also have a Rainbow. The Kirby dude vacuumed my carpet with both of those, and then the Kirby. Disgusting what he brought up with the Kirby--and I'm an extremely clean person. Listen to his schpiel about how NASA helped develop the technology for Kirby, and he'll also tell you why Dyson is a great concept, but doesn't work in reality. He gave me a great trade-in allowance on my Kirby, and would have given me more if I"d have let him have the Rainbow, too, but I run that one as a room air-cleaner. Yes, Kirby's are worth the money, and they're guaranteed for life.

okay, call me crazy but I bought a Kirby from one of those kids back in 1991. I was young and had just bought my first house. Guess what though, I am still using that vacuum and it still works as well as it did when I bought it. I did have a problem with it in 2002 and the kirby company fixed it for free! Is it worth the money? well that depends, my sister has bought a vacuum every year since than because hers keep dieing, she pays about $150 per vacuum. Thats 16 years x 150= $2400 I guess its a personal choice.

Yes my mom owns a kirby I think it was $1500 but we got it a long time ago. It's a pretty good vacuum we barely ever used the shampoer part. I myself would never spend that much on a vacuum but then again it's lasted us a long time.

I had a 20-year old Kirby I got from my mother-in-law. It was okay. I mean, it lasted 20 years, but it was heavy and the belt kept slipping off it. I'd buy 10 Hoovers before I bought a Kirby.

Never owned a Kirby. Used to love Hoover but not any more. Now I have a Dyson & its the BEST! Happened to be at Sam's Club one day when my daughter called. When I told her we were going to this vacuum store next (Kirby?), she said MOM, get a Dyson! She raved about hers! So I went by their vacuums & they had Dyson. Got 1 & have been thrilled with it! Daughter had a 2-story house. She was able to stretch the hose all the way up while the vacuum was on the floor! This one picks up the cat & dog hair (which we get in abundance! uh!) like nothing else! And I LOVE how it doesn't tip over!! SO easy to use AND----NO BAGS! WHY pay for bags when one can just up-end the cup & dump it? Less expensive & more green!!! Never deal with door-to-door sales people! They push & don't care if you can afford it! My X was in sales & he taught me soooo much! Now sales people hate me! hehehehehe.... Kirby---NO Dyson---YES!

I own a Kirby Heritage II that was given to me. It works great and help up terrifically during a house remodel that included dry wall dust everywhere.

I would buy a Dyson if I was looking to buy a new vacuum however.

Kirby vacuum cleaners seem to clean ok. The downside is that if you have alot of carpet to clean, imagine dragging a dead cow behind you. They are extremely heavy and don't pull easily. Funny story...My mom cleans houses for a living. Salesman came to her house to sell her a vacuum. She told him that if he worked with her for the whole day and vacuumed for her, she would buy one. She never bought one, they are way to heavy!

I have an old Kirby. Not sure how much it's worth. It works really great, but it's defintely not worth $2,000, probably not even $500. I don't know about newer ones though.

Ive got one that's about 40 years old. It still works good, but I've heard that it would be expensive to have it repaired if something went wrong with it. I guess its like a Mercedes, built to last but expensive to maintain. I would bet that they aren't built as good as the older models. Try to find one at a yard sale or maybe you can find one at a vacuum repair shop. If you dint think you could hold onto it for 40 years it wouldn't be worth it.
