That's a pretty broad question. The U.S. has many allies. Some are allied out of convenience while others back us up no matter what. Great Britain is probably our closest ally, while other countries such as Russia, South Korea and Israel are more than likely allied, so long as we are in a position to support them. Germany is also an ally, but they've lost a great deal of military might since the last world war. France used to be a close ally, but ever since this whole Iraq situation started we haven't been on very good terms with them. There are also about 30 or so smaller african nations that have sent a little in the way of support against Iraq. I suppose the Vatucan City would also be considered somewhat of an ally, but only because we have such a high catholic population here. There are other countries as well , but they really don't provide much in the way of support.

The United States is formally allies with all the members of NATO. These members include the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Norway, Iceland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
The United States declares Australia, Egypt, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Jordan, New Zealand, Argentina, Bahrain, Philippines, Thailand, Kuwait, Morocco, and Pakistan "major non-NATO allies".

At this point in time, Great Britain and Israel are our staunchest allies. Australia and a few other somewhat insignificant countries are in favor of our policies as a whole. But for the most part, our country is hated in the world. And why not? After all, we have always been fighting uphill to establish our place in this world. We have always championed liberty, equality , and enlightenment when the rest of the world favored chains, monarchies, and darkness.

The United States has never had allies. We become friends and saviors to countries when they need our help but we never receive thanks or gratitude in return. We helped Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines in 1898 when they were under Spain's thumb.
We helped Western Europe in World War I.
We helped many countries fight the Axis powers in World War II. Our troops were fought and died in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific Ocean.
We performed the Berlin Airlift after the Communists seized the city in the aftermath of World War II in the late 1940s.
We helped South Korea in the 1950s stave off the Communists as Russia and China helped the North Koreans (now South Korea is one of the most advance countries in the world, we still have 30,000 troops there protecting them but South Korea would never try to help us).
We helped Vietnam in the late 60s and early 70s when it faced a Communist threat.
We helped Central America achieve democracy in the 1980s.
We helped Eastern Europe develop democracy in the early 90s. We helped protect Muslims from genocide in Kosovo and Bosnia in the late 90s (how quickly they forget).
We are now helping Iraq achieve democracy even though our European "friends" abandoned us for doing the same thing we did for them 60 years ago. (A main reason is that Europe is now home of millions of Islamic Jihadists who would rise up in violence if Europe ever tries to help USA).
America doesn't have friends. Just many ungrateful recipients of our sacrifices.
It's sad, but true.

Yea, our Prime Minister over here (UK) is firmly up Bush's derriere, so I can't see us leaving that list until he's out of Number 10.
I would expect us to always be your allies for the foreseeable future, but I wouldn't count on any other PMs being as subordinate as Blair.
OK, to he who said you have no friends, just ungrateful recipients, I think you've been learning your history from Hollywood.
Anyway, Vietnam is nothing for your country to be proud of. You can't attack countries simply because they don't share your view on capitalism! Oh, and who won that war?
