Taking responsibility takes great maturity and courage. I know many adults who haven't been able to do this yet.

I think a lot of us are afraid...of rejection, reprimand, judgement, abandonment. If we allowed people to see the "real" us, everyone would go away. Ironically, when someone admits to making a mistake, I really admire that person because they have enough self esteem to know that admitting to a mistake is not the same as being a failure.

I think playing the "blame game" is a way that people feel they can not be looked down on by making a mistake. However, we all learn by making mistakes and it's imperative to take responsibility for one's own actions. I used to play the blame game but I learned that if you make a mistake the easiest thing to do is simply admit it and own up to it and people will respect you so much more and you will respect yourself so much more for being honest with not only others but also yourself.

I think it is just easier for people to put the blame on someone else rather then admit that they did wrong. I think that's why I get so irritated when you have adults that commit crimes, but try to use their bad childhoods for an excuse. You know, someone molest a child, and they say well, I did it because I was molested. But you know what? That is just wrong! I didn't have the greatest childhood, and I was abused by my first husband, but I would no more go out and hurt someone else, especially a child. We have the power within ourselves to do good and make the right choices. And if we do go through hard times in our lives, we can use those to help other people.

there's an interesting book out there...I can't remember the title..but the subtitle is 'a nation of victims' and it explores exactly what you are talking about...that America has become a nation where nobody takes responsibility for their own actions...I mean really do you need a notice on the side of an electric appliance that says 'do not submerge in your bathwater'?--but you can bet somebody would sue if that sign wasn't there......They always seem to think that it's someone else's fault..they are never to blame...maybe their parents brought them up wrong (or whatever)...but at some point in your life you can no longer blame your parents for who/what you are....they just don't get it.

People blame others to feel better. It seems to work until everything explodes in your face.

It drives me crazy, I take responsibility for myself, but people are shallow, empty & pathetic, mostly in the work place. People lie to themselves so much they believe the crap the spew.

People who do not admit to their wrong actions are called losers and can't except the fact that they are wrong doers.
