like it really pisses me off and almost everyone in my family slurps. it really gets to me and i dont see anybody annoyed by it. like why do they have to slurp all of their food. doesnt anyone else find this annoying?!?!

in some cultures it's normal. I only slurp if I'm drinking something so hot that it would burn the **** out of my tongue if I didn't slurp...the slurp circulates air around the hot liquid and cools it to a more drinkable temperature by the time it's actually gotten into my mouth!

You know what's more annoying than food slurpers? People who mouth breathe, for one. You know, the people who sit there and watch tv with their mouth open, drive with their mouth open, sit there in line at the grocery store with their mouth open. For another thing, people who go make a smacking noise and go, "Ahhh" after they take a sip of their drink. My brother used to do that. I had to threaten his life for him to knock that off. Try threatening your family, like, if you slurp at supper, you do the dishes. Those who don't slurp get dessert first, etc., etc., etc...

Yeah, it's annoying. What else is that one time when my friends & I went out to a restaurant, one friend of mine started picking things off everyone else's plate. She had her own plate in front of her, and would act like a pig, having to taste everyone else's food. It would have been one thing, if she was curious about how something on one person's plate tasted. Instead, she picked off of everyone's plate...for the main course AND dessert! Like as if she could never ever order that particular meal herself next time...like it was some exotic dish or something. We had to say something to her about it in the end.

i think it is family thing! i am ready to commit *hari kari* if i am in proximity to hear my beloved father crunch, slurp or nosh on anything! I have no explanation for this intense emotional response!
I am told i make alot of noise when i eat to! So i gotta think twice before i complain!!

OOOOhhhhh, that really gets my knickers in a bunch when someone slurps their food, I can't STAND it! It's almost as bad as someone scratching their fingrernails down a chalkboard. That's how much it bothers me. Grrrr............

agreed. It should be common curtiousy to chew with your mouth closed, and not slurp haha. Its very unappetizing.

Oh my god my sister totally slurps everything!!! PLUS to make it worse she makes this humming nose sounds like her saying mmmmmmmm yummy mmmmmmmmm over and over! GOOD god! I just wanna slap her silly!
