5x = 25
Divide both sides of the equation by five
(5/5)x = 25/5
1*x = 5
x = 5

When solving algebraic equations to find the variable, remember this: WHATEVER YOU DO TO ONE SIDE, YOU MUST DO THE SAME TO THE OTHER. And also, your goal is to get the variable by itself.
5x = 25
To get the variable alone, you need to get the 5 out of there. Since hte 5 and x are multiplied together, you can DIVIDE to get the 5 out and the x by itself.
But remember, when you divide by 5 on one side, you MUST divide by 5 on the other side.
5x = 25
---- ----
5 ..... 5
x = 25 / 5
x = 5
