That's the same as saying "automatic teller machine machine" or "personal identification number number."

Yeah, I know... it's redundant... but AT Machine or PI Number just doesn't make sense.
Kind of like calling it a Hot Water Heater... hmmm... hot water doesn't need heating.

I think they're saying it because they don't realize the M in
ATM stands for machine or the N in PIN stands for Number.

It's easier to say ATM machine... because it's shorter... also PIN number.

Most people dont say "machine" or "number" after the abbreviated. It's PIN or ATM
