I have always had pretty good luck using bestfares.com. You do have to join ($49) to actually purchase the advertised fare, but well worth it considering the great deals. 3 years ago, I got an August fare from Pittsburgh to Frankfurt for only $345. Last September, I went again from Pittsburgh to Frankfurt for $429, which also included a free stopover in London. Right now they are advertising RT to 30 different European cities through March 07 for as little as $319. I am pretty sure that is about the best deal you will find. As far as train tickets go, there are not any real discount sites, as every takes the same commission. I always by my passes from raileurope.com At least here I know I am not getting ripped off, same price as you pay at the station. Good luck with your travels, just remember if you book early, you will almost always save.

Shannon123 has a pretty good answer. Some other websites you might want to check out for airfare are:

http://www.kayak.com/
http://www.sidestep.com/air/
http://www.mobissimo.com/search_airfare.php

I was on the rail europe site the other day and noticed that they were advertising some special fares. Check out their specials and promotions http://www.raileurope.com/us/index.htm

This site also advertises some specials http://www.eurorailways.com/

You could get a job in the travel industry. This way you get NET fares or special travel agent rates and the rail passes are cheap!

Good luck!

i studied/lived in Spain for 4 months. Without a doubt. traveling within Europe you should use Ryan Air!!! www.ryanair.com My friend went to Germany round trip for 30 euros. You can pretty much find almost all round trips for under 120 euros. Some go for .99 cents one way. Good luck and have fun!!

Hitchhiking is VERY SAFE in Europe plus they love American money so offer a guy two bucks and he will take you anywhere but he might want to hear an american story from you so be ready to talk on the drive there.
