Unfortunately, these days it doesn't seem to matter, unless it's a special performance or gala, etc.
I would enjoy the chance to dress up a bit, with a nice dress (not long, unless it's casual), shoes and small handbag (purse?), have your hair done and feel good about yourself! If it's Covent Garden, it's a touch dressier than other theatres, but you will see jeans and backpacks there too, sadly.
Don't forget to order a glass/bottle of chilled wine before the performance so that it's ready for you at the interval! And enjoy!
